Some suggestions accepted

WE refer to the letter by Mrs Bessie Cheung (South China Morning Post, February 13), regarding bus provision in Yau Yat Tsuen.

The first suggestion concerned route No 300, which presently travels from Prince Edward MTR Station to Central. It was introduced to provide a comfortable and express bus service in the morning peak hours for commuters travelling from the Mongkok area to work in Central. The suggestion to extend the route to start from Tat Chee Avenue would affect its purpose to act as a shuttle bus to Central, if the bus becomes affected by congestion at Boundary Street.

The second suggestion related to extending the service hours of route No 203; presently commuting from Tat Chee Avenue to Tsim Sha Tsui East. We are now planning to extend the service hours of the 203 from the present duration of 7.30 am-6.30 pm to 7.30 am-8.30 pm.

Another suggestion was for route No 203 to travel to Star Ferry and return, but miss out Tsim Sha Tsui East. However, it is one of our operational objectives to diversify our bus routes, to cater for a broader demand and to provide a wider choice for thepublic. Therefore, it is not recommended to reorganise the No 203s network as the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry is presently served by a number of routes.

We accept Mrs Cheung's third suggestion concerning Yau Yat Tsuen's No 203 omitting the bus turn from Peony Road and Begonia Road and back to Tat Chee Avenue. It will travel via Tat Chee Avenue directly to Boundary Street soon.

The final suggestion concerned route No 104 from Pak Tin to Kennedy Town. Mrs Cheung asked if we could increase the number of air-conditioned buses for the No 104.

Presently, we have seven air-conditioned buses together with seven conventional buses. We welcome the suggestion of strengthening the air-conditioned service of route No 104 and we will forward this to the Transport Department and hope for their early comment.

We would like to thank Mrs Bessie Cheung for expressing her views.
