Man held on drugs suspicion
A MAN who arrived from Bangkok in transit to Amsterdam yesterday was arrested in Kai Tak's transit lounge following the seizure of 3.8 kilograms of high-grade heroin.
The drugs, valued at $2.8 million, were allegedly hidden in false linings of his bag.
The 30-year-old man, who claimed to be a shop owner, also allegedly had two passports - one from Nigeria and the other from Sierra Leone.
The head of Customs Airport Command, Superintendent Raymond Li Wai-man, said one passport indicated that he had left Bangkok while the other had a Manila departure stamp.
Mr Li said he believed the man would, on his arrival in Amsterdam, produce the passport indicating that his last port of call was the Philippines - a non-heroin producing country.
The man is expected to be charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs today.
Immigration officers found the man's travel document suspicious and checked his bag.
Meanwhile, a 24-year-old Nepalese man who claimed to be a student, will appear in San Po Kong Court today charged with drug trafficking related offences.
He was arrested on his arrival from Kathmandu on Tuesday and sent to hospital.
A total of 64 pellets of suspected cannabis resin, worth $40,000, were allegedly discharged by him yesterday.
