SITTING SO PRETTY

Look but do not sit on these chairs. They are expensive, come in limited editions and have their own name and waffly poem ('Days without end, Time outside time, no form, no space, just being, just here, just' - for the chair 'Freefall', $14,990).

But what they lack in poetry, they make up in visual impact. The chairs come from the workshop of London-based designers Simon Bacon and Tim Chitty, who have also designed pieces for the theatre, and their love of dramatic impact is obvious.

Each chair comes in limited editions of no more than 99 and is accompanied by a plaque, stating the range, name and number.

They are all made from ash and everything from woodstains to fabrics is applied by hand.

Five of the Bacon-Chitty chairs are being sold at Design 2000's Ocean Terminal shop. In addition to 'Freefall' are 'Jagurundis' ($25,990), 'Achilles' ($14,990), 'Almost' ($25,990) and 'Enducement' ($14,990).
