RESULTS of tests to determine the cause of 20 cases of food poisoning reported at the weekend are expected within the next few days, the Department of Health said yesterday.

  The outbreak led the department to warn people against eating deep-sea fish or large fish.

  The cases occurred on the weekend after 20 people from seven families ate fish apparently contaminated with an unknown toxin.

  All had eaten fish bought in Tuen Mun markets and two remained in hospital in satisfactory condition last night.

  A department spokeswoman said poisoning from fish toxins occurred occasionally because larger fish sometimes swallowed things which poisoned them.

    She added the department could not be specific on when the tests would be completed, other than to say it would be in the next few days, but in the meantime people should avoid large fish.



Toxic fish report expected
