$20,000 raiders speed through roadblock

Three men escaped with $20,000 from a Causeway Bay restaurant after their Mercedes-Benz sped through a police roadblock and hit a passerby yesterday.

The thieves broke open the metal shutter covering the front door of the Paper Moon restaurant in Kingston Street, prised open the safe and stole the money at 3.30am.

They fled in the grey car which was ordered to stop at a police roadblock in Paterson Street near the junction with Great George Street.

'The car first slowed down in front of our roadblock and then sped through and away. Arriving at the junction, it knocked down a male pedestrian and drove off,' a police officer said.

The 73-year-old man was treated for arm injuries at Tang Shiu Kin Hospital and later discharged.

The vehicle was found abandoned in Ngan Mok Street near Tin Hau MTR station. Bags of coins stolen from the restaurant were found in the car, each containing $50.
