Hong Kong embarrasses itself for price of pizza

I am saddened and angered by the news that the salaries of the lowest-paid workers in Hong Kong, domestic helpers, have been cut by five per cent.

Were the people who decided on this pitiful move aware that the $190 savings a month that employers would get from this embarrassing deal would just about pay for a large pizza and a soft drink? How much lower can Hong Kong get? The sad thing is, even in this time of economic hardship, Provisional Urban Councillor Jennifer Chow Kit-bing recently said on RTHK radio (Hong Kong Today, February 3) that no locals would take on these lowest-paid jobs full-time.
