Suffering dog awaits rescue

Daily I pass by a pet shop in Causeway Bay in which a very large bulldog occupies a very small cage. So small it allows him to stand but not to move around. I reported this to the SPCA last week.

A few days later the situation was still the same, the poor animal lying listlessly in its cage, so I called the SPCA again to check the progress.

Progress? The man who took my call told me that this particular pet shop had been visited on 10 or so occasions this year and had been warned (gosh!).

The Agriculture and Fisheries Department had also been informed, I'm told, and they may not renew the shop's licence (double gosh!). He went on to tell me that if I wanted to I could call the Agriculture and Fisheries Department (AFD) and complain to them.

Meanwhile, while I'm navigating my way around the bureaucracies entrusted with looking the welfare of God's more helpless creatures, the poor dog continues to suffer.

The purpose of my letter is not to criticise either the SPCA or the AFD but to appeal to someone who has the decency and compassion to cut through some of the red tape and help this poor animal.
