Helper fights off car thieves

A domestic helper fought off three car thieves as they tried to steal her employer's Porsche yesterday.

The men tried to force Catalina Belen, 31, into the boot of another car when she disturbed them shortly after 5.30am at a Kowloon Tong car park.

She was on her way to wash the Porsche, parked in the basement of the car park in Parc Oasis Road, when she noticed its boot was open.

'When she went to find out what happened, the three men grabbed her.

'They tried to push her into the boot of another car,' a police spokesman said.

'She put up a struggle and got free, then ran for help.' The three men stole a white Mazda parked nearby instead.

The woman suffered facial injuries in the struggle and returned home to alert her 47-year-old employer, who called police. She was treated at Caritas Medical Centre and discharged.

The stolen Mazda was later found abandoned and on fire outside Good Hope School in New Clear Water Bay Road, Ngau Chi Wan.

In a second incident in Tsuen Wan, a security guard was injured when she tried to stop three thieves in a car park at Clague Garden, Hoi Shing Road.

They threw a car cover over her and pushed her to the ground before stealing a Mitsubishi and Volkswagen and driving off.

No one was arrested in either incident but police said there was evidence to suggest the cases were linked.
