Han to take swing at world's best

Hong Kong-based Kyi Hla Han starts out on a two-week Tiger hunt today that will take him to cash-rich tournaments in Spain and Thailand. Han, Asia's number one last year, will compete in next week's American Express World Golf Championship and then the Johnnie Walker Classic in Thailand.

World number one Tiger Woods will be the star attraction at both tournaments which have total prize money of more than US$6 million. He will be defending his title in the World Golf Championship at Valderrama and aiming to win back the Johnnie Walker Classic title which he lifted in Phuket two years ago. New Zealand's Michael Campbell won the 1999 event in Taiwan.

Han's victory in the Davidoff Tour Order of Merit race last year has won him an invitation to the American Express World Golf Championship tournament which will feature the leading 50 players in the world.

'It is going to be an exciting two weeks playing against Tiger Woods and the world's best in Spain and Bangkok,' said Han. However, Han is disappointed that he will miss next week's US$300,000 Star Alliance Open at Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club.

'It would have been fantastic to play in Hong Kong where I live,' said Han. 'But entry into the World Golf Championship event was a reward for winning the Order of Merit and I am aware that I represent the Asian PGA in these big tournaments.'
