$2,000 fine for Sevens streaker

A rugby fan who streaked on to the pitch at the Hong Kong Sevens on Sunday was fined $2,000 in Eastern Court yesterday.

British visitor James Redman, 29, who had flown into Hong Kong the day before, pleaded guilty to public indecency and apologised to Magistrate Henry Mierczak.

The court heard Redman took off his shorts and ran across the pitch until he was caught by police officers. He said he had drunk too much and acted on impulse.

Canadian Charles Adams, 29, an executive recruitment consultant who ran on to the pitch with his shirt off later in the day, was also fined $2,000. Adams, who admitted entering an area off-limits to the public, also said he had drunk too much.

Nassery Shejauddin, 28, and Ian Dudley Barnett, 35, pleaded guilty to touting tickets and were each fined $1,500. The pair approached two off-duty police officers in Caroline Hill Road, Happy Valley, on Saturday and offered tickets for $800 each.

UK carpet fitter John Scully, 31, accused of possessing seven tickets for unauthorised sale, did not appear in court. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
