I would like to highlight a growing problem that is occurring throughout Hong Kong's education system.

Most university programmes and courses are utterly useless when it comes to helping graduates obtain work or even gain work experience in the subject area they wish to pursue. The students have few choices. They can reinvest in another course, change careers, or find a low-paid job to pay off the loans they have incurred trying to finance the first degree.

It would be better if the Government forced all our educational facilities to actually inform students about the genuine prospects and the future they face if they embark on a particular course. Statistics should be available giving information about the employment record of former graduates of a particular course, going back five years.

I know this is going to be hard work for schools and colleges, but wouldn't it be better to do this than turning out students who cannot contribute to society in the SAR. If we did this, then we might not need to go abroad for the professionals that we cannot find in Hong Kong.
