Tsang to open drug prevention centre

Updated at 7.17pm: Donald Tsang Yam-kuen on Monday evening is to preside over a ceremony marking the construction of Hong Kong's first-ever permanent exhibition hall dedicated to drug prevention.

The two-storey 900-square-metre building on the roof garden of Queensway Government Offices, forms the second phase of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre. The project is scheduled for completion in 2003.

It will make use of multi-media exhibits and interactive games to disseminate anti-drug messages to youngsters.

The Chief Secretary for Administration said: "Apart from heroin and cannabis, amphetamines and other psychotropic substances are also being abused. The latter are even more dangerous as under the innocuous label of 'soft drugs', youngsters are often enticed by drug traffickers into trying them, and gradually falling prey to addiction.''
