Deng gives Lily his version of the fax

THE publication of the Lilygate Letters, the biggest scandal to hit Hongkong since the Guv's pup Soda went walkies (well, so say the authors) has so far met with a ''no comment'' from those featured.

The expose, from cartoonist Larry Feign and Lai See columnist Nury Vittachi, details relationships between the high and mighty of Hongkong, China and Britain and a Mrs Lily Wong of Whampoa Garden, Hung Hom, through a series of letters.

The Governor, the Baroness, HRH Prince Charles, and Margaret the First of England, are just some whose penmanship can be admired in this engrossing little book.

Showing his investigative flair, Vittachi's alter-ego Lai See discovered the letters after taking a tumble into the cellar of Government House after a party.

Having been given out for review by the Sunday Morning Post, Execute Yourself Tonight! The Lilygate Letters was passed around the political circuit like a hot potato before being returned to us with nothing but a peeling jacket.

So instead, we publish a letter from another of Lily's leading lights, one Deng Xiaoping. Execute Yourself Tonight! The Lilygate Letters, by Larry Feign and Nury Vittachi (Hambalan, $119).
