Former CIS head escapes 'nitty-gritty' as consultant

The former head of the Chinese International School has set up his own education consultancy just two months after his sudden resignation stunned the school's parents and board.

Alex Horsley quit his post in June after three years as head of the school and is now running a consultancy named New Concepts in International Education.

He refused to give the reason for his departure from the school. 'I'd rather get on and do my new thing,' he told Education Post.

New Concepts covers three main consultancy areas: working with groups who want to form new schools, providing families with information about boarding schools, colleges and universities in the UK and US, and developing dual language programmes for schools.

'Working with parents and students in this way is something I have always wanted to do.

'It enables me to help individuals and groups without being involved in the nitty gritty of running a school,' Mr Horsley said.

'There are people who are crying out for help with educational issues in Hong Kong. This is because of the difficulties the Education Department has in furthering reforms that everyone has agreed on in principle but are finding very difficult to put into practice.'
