Steady on: The Millennium Bridge (above) has re-opened across London's River Thames. Designed by Lord Norman Foster, the 325-metre steel and aluminium pedestrian structure opened in the summer of 2000 but was closed after it swayed alarmingly during the first week (causing motion sickness to some). Arup, the engineers, blamed this on 'synchronised foot-fall' and has installed a series of dampers (like car shock absorbers) at the cost of an extra #5 million (HK$55 million).
