2 die after car plunges down hill

Two men were killed and two critically injured in a car crash early yesterday - only a day after two people died in a minibus accident in North Point.

The spate of deaths has prompted authorities to appeal for drivers to drive carefully, especially in the early hours before dawn.

In yesterday's accident, the driver lost control of the car and it plunged off Bride's Pool Road and down an embankment near Chung Mei at 3.20am, police said.

A 25-year-old passenger was trapped in the crushed compartment and had to be pulled from the wreckage. He was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital suffering serious injuries, but was certified dead at 4.40am.

The 21-year-old driver, a 23-year-old passenger and a 19-year-old passenger - all men - were taken to hospital in critical condition. The 19-year-old died from his injuries at 1pm.

The New Territories North traffic investigation team has appealed for witnesses to the accident to contact police on 2675 3325 or 2675 3386.

Six people are still being treated in hospital after a pre-dawn collision between two minibuses and a taxi in North Point on Friday morning. The two minibus drivers, aged 24 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death. Both have been released on police bail pending further investigation.
