Something's brewing

The San Francisco Brewing Company earned a large fan base when it set up shop in Beijing in 1996. But sadly, it has long gone the way of the stubby and the talking beer can. Two other brew pubs, which feature Chinese food, are a bottle's throw from Paulaner: Duck and Dark offers an eponymous beer; while the Great Wall restaurant supplements its home-style cooking with its house brew.

Meanwhile, the Sunman Brewing Company distributes its light, dark and green beer to restaurants around town. Algae gives the beer its colour and health benefits, which are said to include improving immunity to radiation. The green beer is available at home-style Chinese food favourite Yi Yuan, and at King Roast Duck.
