Mapping Chinese calligraphy expo

Non-profit art organisation Artist Commune hopes to introduce the public to the world of contemporary calligraphy through its latest joint exhibition, Construct the Ink Map.

The exhibition will feature 50 calligraphic paintings by Wei Ligang (Beijing, pictured below), Yang Xiaojian (Shanghai) and Xu Kie (Shenzhen).

The artists have unique styles and approaches.

Each one is trying to make a breakthrough in the development of traditional Chinese calligraphy.

Their inspiration comes from analysing Chinese characters and writing, and using this as a framework to explore new ideas.

The exhibition will be held from July 9 to 14 at the Artist Commune in To Kwa Wan. A discussion session hosted by the artists will precede the event on July 8 from 7 to 9pm at the Hong Kong Visual Art Centre. Admission is free.
