Interior designer

In the world of interiors, size doesn't matter, says  homegrown designer Leo Mok. The founder of Whole Concept believes  'a small home can afford big ideas and a mediocre-looking flat can be made elegant'.

Favourite shop for homeware

'Anterra [5-7 Blue Pool Road, Happy Valley, tel: 2577 5716] is western and minimalist and Ovo [16 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai, tel: 2526 7226] more Oriental. Both have their own character and  unlike small furniture shops in town, they surprise from time to time.'

Favourite living designer

'Yukio Hashimoto. He's good at combining Japanese modern and classic styles. Some of his designs simply express a concept and are not practical at all. Hong Kong designers have more practical concerns.'

Favourite design magazine

'Conde from Taiwan. The Taiwanese designs it features are clever and endearing. They are by Chinese designers so I can relate to them and find inspiration.'

Design no-no

'Inappropriate decorative items. Some of my clients will put 36 Hello Kitty dolls next to a professional, stylish design. That's pathetic. The other extreme is to display nothing. Some people find it too much trouble to put up decorative lights or paintings.'

Top of my wish list

'A garden. I love plants. They grow and die and make the surroundings come alive. The look of a garden changes  because of the plants. If I can't have a garden, a trough with flowers will do.'

Favourite item at home

'A black iron and wood platform in my living room. On the ceiling above it is a decorative balustrade. It has an exclusive feel. It's a place where I can sleep, do yoga and simply relax.'
