Good call

People in Hong Kong love Skype, the innovative service that allows free voice over IP (VOIP) phone calls around the world. If you need proof, head to any computer mall and you'll find almost every shop is selling dozens of different models of Skype-capable handsets and phones. But what if you can't bear to part with your life-size fire-breathing Godzilla phone?

Do you have to relegate your illuminated Hello Kitty phone to a dusty corner of the closet?

Not any more.

Canadian company Merconnet is selling a small plastic device that will allow you to use your existing phone for making and receiving Skype calls. The Sky IPmate T30 has three sockets on the back, for your landline, your existing phone and a USB connection for your computer. An option that some will find especially appealing is that the included software can forward your Skype calls to any phone number, which of course would include your mobile phone.

If you can't find this product in local shops, it can be ordered online at www.merconnet.com for US$60 (HK$468) plus shipping.
