Young people are now more proactive about their careers, possess more concrete goals and have specific ideas of what they want. With job prospects increasing in all fields, and more businesses diversifying and globalising, there is now a world of opportunities for young and aspiring individuals. Classified Post asked four go-getters what their career goals were and if they were on track towards achieving them.

'I want to own my own trading company specialising in the import and export of electronics. My father is in the electronics business and I know a lot of people in the industry. I'm in trading already and getting all the skills and contacts to build my own business.' Jay Ozorio, trading

'To keep dancing and one day join shows on Broadway or dance troupes in Europe. By the time that happens I should have finished my interior design course which is my fall-back career when the dancing has to stop. I'm going to dance while these bones are young. I'm training every day, disciplining myself in my craft and getting more exposure as a performer and financing my studies.' Marah Arcilla, performing arts

'I want to run my own accounting firm. After all, it's better to be a boss than an employee. I'm already working but still have to pass my CPA board exams. What I'm doing is studying hard so I can get good grades and that can be my stepping stone to owning my own firm.' Peter Lee Chun-pang, accounting

'My career goal is to own and run a multipurpose event hall in 20 years, to have creative space for workshops, festivals, banquets, performances, exhibitions and even an art workroom. I'm enriching my career now by acquiring different sets of skills that will allow me to successfully curate my events hall and build it into a self-sustaining organisation.' James Ganaban, F&B
