Movie producer questioned

HONG KONG movie producer Stephen Lo Kit-shing was early this morning helping Macau police with investigations into alleged dishonoured cheques involving more than $1 million.

Lo is believed to be in dispute with fellow producer, Wong Pak-ming - his partner with Lo in businesses in both Hong Kong and Macau.

Mr Wong left police headquarters at about 7 pm, but Lo was still being questioned early today. Police said Lo would probably appear in court today.

Reports from Macau said the two men had been in partnership for several years and had become involved in a dispute several months ago involving their partnership of a restaurant in the Portuguese enclave.

Lo runs Hong Kong's South China Athletic Association soccer club and owns the Wing Ko and Regal film companies.

He hit the headlines last November because of his links to murdered triad leader Andely Chan Yiu-hing.

Lo had sponsored Chan as a driver in the Macau Grand Prix.

Chan, 32, said to lead the Sun Yee On in Wan Chai and nicknamed the ''Tiger of Wan Chai'', was shot dead outside the New World Hotel in Macau during Grand Prix weekend.

Lo was with Chan minutes before the shooting, but had remained behind in the hotel lobby.

Chan's mechanic, Tse Chun-fung, 29, was also shot dead, while another mechanic, Ho Sun-wing, survived.
