Official fired after 3-day brawl between rival villages in Hainan

A township party chief was sacked for not maintaining public order after three days of clashes between two feuding villages in Dongfang, Hainan, left one person dead and nine others injured. The city dismissed Gancheng township party boss Qin Guohua and recommended that township chief Wu Kaiqiang be sacked in line with the Communist Party's discipline regulations, state media said. More than 1,000 farmers from two villages engaged in a deadly three-day riot from March 23. 100kg of Ice seized in raid on Guangzhou drug factory

Guangzhou police raided a drug factory hidden in a residential area, seizing more than 100kg of the designer drug Ice - the biggest haul on the mainland in recent years, the city's police spokesman said yesterday. Three truckloads of chemicals and drug-making equipment were also seized. A man, whose family name was Yang, was arrested in Monday's raid. The spokesman refused to confirm whether he was a resident of Hong Kong. Yang was allegedly packaging the drug as fertiliser in small bags when he was caught. Chloe Lai
