Solas offers something 'above and beyond' rivals in pursuit of perfect girls' nights out

Girls' nights out could be more interesting in town now that Solas has launched a series of 'Something for the Ladies' events featuring various drinks, sponsors and entertainment.

The Wyndham Street bar on Wednesday was packed with gals bestowed with goodie bags downing free-flowing champagne as it announced it will hold six special monthly events for regulars who sign up on the snazzy joint's database.

Solas will hold its usual ladies' nights with free vodka-based drinks from 9pm to 12am, every other Wednesday, but wants to give extra rewards to its regulars, Solas' operations manager Rieke Klohn and general manager Ciar?n Hussey (pictured left and centre), said. 'There are so many ladies' nights around town, which are all similar, [offering] free drinks for women,' Irishman Hussey, 29, said. 'We've decided to reward regular patrons with something over and above what's normally offered.'

The bar's first special event, on August25, will feature pole-dance instructors from Pole Divas, who will entertain visitors with their creative routines and then invite members of the audience to strut their stuff.

Perceptions of pole dancing have changed from 'exotic dance' to a 'fun and fitness' activity for women, Pole Divas director Jady Chow Pik-yiu (pictured right) said. It had become more popular here since the inaugural Hong Kong International Pole Dancing Competition last year, she said. 'Pole dancing requires a lot of muscle strength and flexibility; it combines weight training, yoga [flexibility] and dance.'
