Bill Lu Ping for cavalcade

AS a taxpayer I was absolutely horrified to hear that Mr Lu Ping had a police cavalcade to escort him on his travels during his visit to the colony last week.

If this is true, it is a gross misuse of taxpayers' money.

Mr Lu made it perfectly clear that he was not in Hong Kong to conduct official business with the Government but merely to talk with the Preliminary Working Committee, a body with no official standing.

Mr Lu went out of his way to ignore the Governor and adamantly refused to meet him.

If this is the case then why was he receiving special treatment? I would seek the Government's confirmation that taxpayers' money will not be used for the police escorts and that Mr Lu will be personally billed for this special service.

I would also seek an assurance that there will be no misuse of public funds in respect of any subsequent visits Mr Lu may make to Hong Kong.

No doubt the Director of Audit will be carrying out a thorough investigation into this case.
