The Legend Of Kyrandia For Macintosh  MALCOLM, the evil court jester of Kyrandia, is out for revenge.

  The evil one has broken out of prison and plans to destroy Kyrandia - the most magical of the ancient kingdoms.

  In The Legend Of Kyrandia, Westwood Studios' first game in their Fable and Fiends series, you play the role of Brandon, Prince of Kyrandia.

  Your task is to stop Malcolm from fulfilling his demonic mission by reaching and repairing the ''Kyragem'', the enormous jewel containing the combined magic of the entire realm.

  The fate of Brandon is, therefore, in your hands. You pick up, carry and use the many objects that appear in Kyrandia, and guide him around the realm.

  There are puzzles to solve so you must carefully follow the clues. But mostly, you need to spend time just wandering the landscape and finding out what you have to do by trial and error.

  Since Brandon has to do a lot of walking, you are advised to select the fastest pace from the menu bar to save time.

    Although most of the game can be played without a map, when you enter the cave, it becomes essential as you have to keep track of specific caves that have fire berries. If you lead Brandon to a cave without light, he will be killed by horrible, unknown creatures.

  It is good to see that gamers are allowed to set their own game controls, like walk speed, text speed, music, sound and display from the options portion of the menu bar.

  Because Brandon could be killed while exploring, players should save the game frequently, especially when they are heading into a dangerous zone such as the cave and under the ruby tree.

  The Legend Of Kyrandia is an enjoyable adventure for both new and experienced gamers - the plot is charming, the interface is easy to use and the game is filled with humorous touches. The enhanced music and sound effects go well with the plot.

  The game also has great graphics; the scenery is stunning, although some of the forest scenes are a little repetitive. The actions of the characters are life-like and they have consistent personalities.

  The only drawback to the game is the restriction on the number of items you can hold in the on-screen inventory. It is a little inconvenient to be able to hold only 10 items at a time.

  As you can't carry everything you find during your journey, you need to discard some along the way. If you discover later that you need to retain an item you have already dropped, go back to the place where you dropped it and pick it up.

  The game runs on 256-colour Macintosh of Mac II Family, LC Family, Centris Family, Performa Family and Quadra Family with 2.5 megabytes of RAM, system 6.0.7 or later, HD floppy drive and 10 megabytes of hard disk space.

    MEGAHINT: One possible way to get rid of the jeering clown, Malcolm, who threw the knife at you in the Serpent's Grotto, is to throw it back by clicking on the knife handle when it is embedded in the tree.

  MEGAHINT: After putting the right birthstones - sunstone, aquamarine, onyx and ruby - in ascending order on the altar, you can pick up a flute, which is the only thing that can break the ice wall which Malcolm has erected.

  MEGAHINT: Since the cave is very dark, you have to pick up the fire berries to light the way. The best way to do this is to take three fire berries at a time and drop them in each room you enter. Be careful, the berries will go out every three screens.

  MEGAHINT: Once you get everything you want from the cave, make sure you also have all the rocks to use as counterweights to open the gate and let you out.

  MEGAHINT: Before you can activate the blue crystal on your amulet, you have to drink some magic water from the fountain.

  MEGAHINT: To fix the altar surrounded by lavender rose, you have to get a marble from Merith. But before you can find him, you have to catch a teardrop by clicking on the pool, and place it in the dent of the dead willow tree to cure it.



Battling the evil jester
