On style, she rules

I just had a baby and heard one of the other new mums talking about these amazing machines from Germany that get rid of fat for you with some sort of vacuum? Please tell me where I can get one so I can drop this baby weight and get back into my old clothes.

The Dictator rules: Who knows? You could be talking about any number of spa slimming treatments from the tons of weight- loss schemes out there. I'm willing to bet, however, that you're thinking of Hypoxi, which apparently celebs such as Madonna and Cheryl Cole have used. If you want to understand the science behind it, go ask Dr Norbert Egger, the weight-loss specialist who founded the company. Wait, you might as well just head to the official Hypoxi studio at The Body Buddies (8/F, EuBank Plaza, 9 Chiu Lung Street, Central, tel: 2537 6637). The basic idea is that traditional methods are combined with technology to shift fat, increase lymphatic drainage and tighten skin. If you think this is an easy alternative to exercising and watching what you eat, think again. You still need to do that. The Hypoxi Trainer L250 or S120 involves machines but also some mild to moderate stationary bike riding. There's the Vacunaut, which combines vacuum therapy with compression to increase circulation and attack fat around the hips and abdomen. If your skin hasn't quite snapped back to pre-pregnancy tautness, then there's Dermology, which gives a compression massage while vacuum-cupping the skin for immediately visible results. Whatever the case, there's no harm in giving this a try (pack- ages start from HK$1,888). If you're a new mother, you should consult your gynaecologist first. It'll be about six weeks till you get the OK after a normal birth, longer post-Caesarean.

I've seen ads with cute round-collar shirts, but when I went to the shop they were all a bit pointy at the edges. I thought Miu Miu might have them, or Marc Jacobs. Where else can I find them? These are the moments when I wish I was back in Britain, because I know Topshop has loads.

The Dictator: They're called Peter Pan collars, in reference to the round-edged collars on children's clothing from the early 1900s. Speaking of Peter Pan, the boy who refused to grow up, there's quite a movement in fashion towards a child-like Lolita style, with several advertising campaigns featuring girls dressed as women, such as 14-year-old actress Hailee Steinfeld. We're almost as disturbed by that as we are by the concept of women dressing as little girls. Find the grown-up version at Louis Vuitton, which has black tops with white rounded collars (HK$7,350 to HK$20,800; Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 8100 1182), dresses (HK$32,000) and versatile collars that can instantly update your wardrobe (HK$2,000 in cream twill; HK$5,500 in black patent). DKNY's interpretations include a black lace top with a white collar (HK$2,190; Fashion Walk, 11 Great George Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 2890 2799). Ted Baker dresses up the look for less, with sequinned Peter Pan collars on tees (HK$900; Pacific Place, tel: 2918 9609) and dresses (HK$2,000). I'm guessing you didn't know you can find a limited selection of Topshop items at Lane Crawford and it does have a few round-collar tops (HK$350 to HK$450; Pacific Place, tel: 2118 3668).
