Holidaymakers and event planners in search of luxury resorts in Sanya on Hainan Island have another two spots to choose from. 
 The Kempinski Hotel Haitang Bay Sanya, the group's first beach resort in China, opened last week in a central area,  directly opposite  Wuzhizhou Island, which is touted as a divers' paradise. 
A 25-minute drive from  Sanya Phoenix International Airport, the resort offers 576 guest rooms and 52 luxurious villas, all featuring Chinese traditional wood carvings combined with European designs.
A major attraction of the resort is  a private gondola ride along its 1,200-metre-long river, crossed by  11 classical-Chinese-arch bridges. Guests can choose to  travel to their rooms or  to one of the hotel's restaurants by private gondola.
The grand ballroom, covering 1,500 square metres, can host meetings and events for up to 1,200 people. In addition, there are 11 meeting rooms for different functions.
Food and beverage facilities at the resort include a Chinese restaurant, a German brewery, a beach bar, a cafe, and an all-day dining restaurant.
There is an art centre  transported, brick by brick, from an old Shanghai-style house. Other sports and recreational facilities for guests include a nine-hole practice golf course with a children's putting green, a spa centre, a shopping arcade, two tennis courts, outdoor swimming pools, a fitness centre and a games room.
 The St Regis Sanya Yalong Bay Resort  opened in Yalong Bay on November 30, the first St Regis property in Hainan. 'Yalong Bay is the tropical playground for China's elite travellers,'  says Qian Jin,  senior vice-president of operations, Greater China, Starwood Hotels & Resorts. 'The introduction of the St Regis brand to Hainan offers a new level of sophistication and amenities, and redefines Yalong Bay as a destination resort for discerning international travellers.'
With direct access to more than 800 metres of white sandy beaches, the resort offers 373 guest rooms and suites, and 28 oversized beachside villas all equipped with deluxe amenities and modern facilities such as HD plasma cable televisions, a computer, iPod charging stations and Wi-fi access.
The resort boasts three distinct restaurants: an all-day dining restaurant serving international cuisines, a restaurant serving freshly-caught local seafood, and a restaurant serving Cantonese and Sichuanese dishes. There is also a restaurant for wine-tasting and dinner, a lounge and a bar. 
The resort is the first on the island to offer butler service to all guests, and the first to offer sail-in, sail-out access through an exclusive partnership with the Sanya Yalong Bay Yacht Club located in the hotel's premises. It also houses the first iridium Spa in southern China.
