Universitas Brawijaya maintains strong relations with local and international entrepreneurs

As the world becomes more connected in the 21st century, with people, information and resources easily crossing boundaries, strategic partnerships and collaborations have become integral in the field of
tertiary education.

One of Indonesia’s prominent state universities, Universitas Brawijaya (UB),
is looking to augment its domestic
and international cooperative
endeavours in line with its vision to become a world-class entrepreneurial university catering to a more international student body.

“We continue to strengthen the linkages we’ve built with industry, government and academic institutions,” says Professor Mohammad Bisri, rector. “These alliances help us yield graduates with strong enterprise and entrepreneurial skills who can make a positive contribution to a globally connected society.”

Located in the historic city of Malang in East Java, UB started its operations
in 1963. Today, it stands among the
top universities in Indonesia acclaimed
for its cooperative learning approach
that enhances student engagement
and learning.

UB offers the highest number of study programmes in the country at 156, consisting of diploma, undergraduate, master’s degree, doctorate, professional and specialist programmes.

Of its 15 faculties, one of the most reputable disciplines is the faculty of agriculture, which made a breakthrough
in goat breeding technology under a cooperation agreement with one of the largest state-owned banks in Indonesia.

Innovative work at the university
also resulted in the commercialisation
of a diabetes diagnostic kit in tandem
with pharmaceutical manufacturer
Bio Farma.

To date, UB has mutually beneficial relationships with more than 500 domestic and foreign organisations. Its cooperation deals take many forms, including co-taught courses and degrees, student exchanges, collaborative research and career development programmes. UB is keen on forging similar partnerships especially with institutions in the Asean and the Middle East.

“With our continued focus on innovation and entrepreneurship complemented by the expertise of our strategic partners, we are working to ensure a better future not only for Indonesia, but also for the rest of the world,” Bisri says.
