Paris Fashion Week: good things come to those who wait

Fashion Week is almost over. As some of the hip crowd heads to Carine Roitfeld's party tonight at the Hotel Salomon de Rothschild, there are others that lie utterly exhausted and spent. But despite this being the penultimate day of the Paris schedule, it's not to say it wasn't full of wonder and excitement.

Alexander McQueen blew fashion's socks off with its late show at 8pm last night. Creative director Sarah Burton was inspired by bees and honeycombs - a radical departure from all else going on in Paris. It was a welcome shock to the system, a spectacular menagerie of corsets, hoop skirts and stunning couture fabrics. Crowds left the venue impressed, smiling with approval and totally in awe of Burton.

Valentino won hearts with one of the prettiest shows of the season with delicately pulled together fabrics and lovely, flattering shapes. I especially liked the full-sleeved long gowns towards the end.

Chanel's collection for Spring Summer showed Karl Lagerfeld's playful side. Loose tunics, cropped beaded jackets had a 60s and 70s feel. The hats with the huge see-through wide brims were wonderful additions.
