Review: Vinoperfect Radiance Facial at Caudalie Spa

French skincare brand Caudalie – which grew, literally, from founder Mathilde Thomas’s family vineyard in Bordeaux – opened its Hong Kong flagship on Gough Street late last year, with promises of introducing its exclusive vinotherapie treatments for face and body. At long last, the Caudalie Spa is open and offering facials, massages and manicures tailored specifically to Hong Kong consumers.

Located at the back of the boutique, the spa is divided between a ground-floor area for quick treatments and sparties, and a first-floor area with two spacious treatment rooms. The brand’s grape-inspired ethos is evident in the signature wallpaper and a decorative vine stalks, but the overall look is clean and refined.

I tried the Vinoperfect Radiance Facial, designed to brighten, even and hydrate the skin. The treatment got off to a great start, thanks to the adjustable bed and wonderful scent of the products (not to mention the candle flickering in the corner). After a round of cleansing, including a quick swipe of the Clarisonic brush, the therapist performed rather thorough extractions followed by a gentle massage using warm and cool basalt stones – inspired by the stones placed at the base of the grapevines to regulate temperature, or so I was told. I was also treated to a soothing hand and arm massage while the Vinoperfect Enzymatic Peel Mask worked on further clearing and tightening my pores.

The treatment finished with the Vinoperfect Radiance Serum, and I was left with skin that was noticeably plumper and - at least for a few hours - actually glowing. I was also given a skin evaluation and product samples to try at home. 

Caudalie’s products are so well presented and eco-friendly (made without parabens, phthalates, mineral oils and other nasty ingredients) that it’s tempting to buy them all. Thankfully, the treatments are relatively affordable compared to those at hotel spas or similar high-end venues. So until I turn my bathroom into a Caudalie showroom, I’ll be back to try the Vinexpert Firming Facial (HK$780) and a manicure (HK$300) with colour by French natural polish brand Kure Bazaar.
