Hong Kong tiger parents, don’t let your children join protesters in boycotting their future

As a law-abiding Hong Kong resident, I find it deplorable that the Education Bureau is delegating its authority to individual schools over planned classroom boycotts. I appeal to all “tiger parents” of Hong Kong to please speak out when your children are being misled into boycotting their futures.

All parents have a solemn responsibility to teach their children about academic excellence, discipline, and respect for fellow students and the authorities. Sadly, there is a serious lack of these attributes in evidence these days. I appeal to all educational institutions, whether schools or universities, to be prepared to take disciplinary action against students or teachers who preach civil disobedience, such as supporting the class boycott.

The silent majority of Hongkongers have been working hard to support the educational system, are fed up with the current social breakdown and are rightly demanding a return to a society of harmony instead of a society of continued divisiveness.

Korean teachers stand in solidarity with Hong Kong educators

The Korean Pragmatic Teachers Federation (KTF) would like to express our deep respect and solidarity with Hong Kong teachers who are struggling to defend democracy and their conscience and to keep pupils safe.

We Korean teachers, who faced the same dilemma during the long democracy movement against the military dictatorship, understand the mindset of Hong Kong teachers very well.

KTF promises to stand in solidarity with Hong Kong teachers and residents. We will teach Korean students about the situation and voices in Hong Kong. We will lend our support to democracy and human rights in East Asia.

We sincerely hope the problems in Hong Kong can be solved peacefully and democratically.
