Leveraging the top-notch plating technologies of its mother company from Japan, Singapore Epson Industrial (SEP) Plating Division has been for many years the partner of choice of the most demanding manufacturers from Europe and Asia-Pacific. This time, Southeast Asian manufacturers are bound to discover the same level of efficiency, reliability and competitiveness in plating technology as SEP started to introduce its offerings to the region this year.

“Our marketing team has started visiting Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam to discuss with local agents how to navigate these unchartered markets,” says general manager John Loh. “We are open to all opportunities across Southeast Asia.”

For nearly 40 years, SEP has been developing among the most advanced plating technologies used by many industries from semiconductors and electronics to automotive and aerospace.

More importantly, the company has been able to deliver premium quality at a competitive price point. SEP draws on the support of its Jiangsu factory, while its comprehensive recycling programme has been as successful in lowering overall production costs as it has been in preserving the environment. The company’s water recycling system, for instance, is a gold awardee in Water Efficient Building of Singapore’s Public Utilities Board.

SEP has developed technologies in-house to reuse hydrochloric acid, potassium permanganate, electroless nickel and other chemicals, and has been able to reduce electricity consumption by using solar panels in heating chemical solutions.

Global players have long partnered with SEP also because of the company’s commitment to customers. “We listen carefully to clients and strive to understand what they truly want and require,” Loh says. “Our engineers analyse customer proposals and are tasked to come up with a far more efficient and value-added programme.”

Such initiatives include the expansion of SEP’s service offering to include back-end-of-line processing such as interconnecting semiconductors after plating them. As a result, customers enjoy the advantages of dealing with only one service provider as the company focuses on covering the whole manufacturing process from raw materials to finished goods.

Leveraging its pool of highly seasoned engineers, SEP is also moving into new verticals within the automotive, semiconductor and medical industries. In particular, the company wants to partner with electric vehicle manufacturers in China while exploring opportunities in automotive safety products such as airbag sensors.

“We have consistently challenged ourselves with higher targets and expectations,” Loh says. “We want to further raise our competency as we strive to be an indispensable part of the market.”
