There is no stopping the young, driven and ambitious Sermsang Power Corp (SSP) in fulfilling its vision of becoming a leading Asian power producer providing sustainable energy solutions with a full commitment to support a clean environment and the best interests of society. Established in Thailand in 2010 with a small team of four highly determined management members, SSP has grown to 30 employees who have aggressively taken over a few leading projects across Asia. It traded for the first time in the Market for Alternative Investment in September last year, raising more than US$63 million.
SSP may be small, but it has the passion to drive forward and the openness to explore new things, according to CEO Varut Tummavaranukub. “Our key advantage is that we have high flexibility in terms of making quick decisions and, most importantly, we are very hands-on in dealing with each of our projects,” Varut says.
Aside from producing and distributing solar power to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, SSP has also set up the first solar farm in Lopburi province in 2015 with 52-megawatt peak installations. The company has also done projects in Japan that resulted in the first power plant with battery systems in Hokkaido in 2016, and to four projects at Kumamoto and Shizuoka running until 2020.
Moreover, in fulfilling its goal to change communities through the power of collaboration with governments and private investors, SSP has expanded through Mongolia in 2017 and started investing for a solar farm project near the airport.
With these projects beginning to make a queue, the future is bright for SSP as it begins to use technologies such as blockchain and solar rooftops for industrial, commercial and residential properties.
“This is our focus moving forward, and we’re here for a long run. Of course, we try to look for right partners to invest in more projects, acquire good returns and ultimately make a better society,” Varut says.
