Japan’s push to showcase the future of hydrogen power in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which has been postponed to next year, is inspiring innovation surrounding the “fuel of the future”. As the trusted name in Japan for high-pressure gas system planning, Chiyoda Seiki is not far behind with its hydrogen gas regulator. The company boasts the widest range of gas control equipment, welding and cutting equipment, gas vaporisers and gas regulators that are fully customisable and made only in Japan.

“We are now developing the equipment for the hydrogen market,” says Yoshihiro Taniguchi, president. “Our gas regulator is designed to handle very high pressure for large-scale hydrogen production.”

Although busy building entire gas systems for clients in Japan’s construction and car manufacturing industries, cast-iron foundries and food and chemical laboratories, Chiyoda is eyeing expansion overseas so that exports could bring in 10 per cent of company revenue starting this year. Its initial target markets are India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam where the demand for gas system planning expertise is growing. The company is also developing gas piping with semi-automatic changeover systems to help various industries attain uninterrupted gas service at lower cost, especially Japanese onsens, beauty salons and potato storage firms.

“We are renowned in Japan for ultrafast after-sales service,” Taniguchi says. “We will bring this level of reliability to overseas markets that are ready for our advanced expertise.”

As the company pursues continuous innovation, it welcomes research and development opportunities and strategic partnerships on a global scale. Within three years, Chiyoda will open a new factory in Japan alongside sales offices in Hong Kong and Singapore to raise overall sales and company size by 30 per cent over the long term.
