The high-end gaming personal computer (PC) market is thriving while overall global PC sales continue to decline. Emerging as the biggest and fastest-growing market in this niche of gaming-focused desktops and laptops is Asia-Pacific, driven by an entrenched PC gaming culture and the region’s young and rising population.

MCJ is seizing the growth opportunities in the region. The Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed company has clearly positioned itself in terms of client base – skirting the mainstream market to focus on the high-end speciality segment. This includes personalised hardware and peripherals for picture and video editing, and for stock and foreign exchange trading apart from high-spec gaming and creator-PCs.

“We are not directly competing with PC majors,” says Motoyasu Yasui, president and chief operating officer. “We primarily cater to gaming techies and tech-savvy customers, understanding their needs and providing them build-to-order PCs and after-sales support at competitive prices. This focus has been our strength and led us to record profits last year.”

Through 19 consolidated subsidiaries, the operations of Tokyo-based holding company MCJ encompass manufacturing, retail and distribution of tailor-made PCs, high-end monitors, peripherals and other information technology gadgets. MCJ also maintains strong distribution relations with MS, Intel, Asus and other hardware manufacturers.

To gain traction in Asia-Pacific, MCJ completed the acquisition of a majority interest in Singapore-based R-Logic International. R-Logic enhances MCJ’s global expansion by providing reliable after-sales customer care, including technical support, repair services and parts supply management, in Southeast Asia. MCJ also welcomes institutional investors as it bolsters its overseas expansion strategy, which involves the expected introduction of its established Mouse Computer and high-end iiyama brands to Asia via strategic distribution partnerships.

With plans to diversify its portfolio in the areas of internet of things, virtual reality and augmented reality devices and wearable technologies, MCJ is open to research and development collaborations with universities, research institutions and industry players with complementary expertise.
