With Asia-Pacific’s multitrillion-dollar wealth and asset management industry rapidly on the rise, Seoul-based Rhinos Asset Management is widening its scope of investment towards Asia’s emerging frontier markets.

As the first company in South Korea to provide domestic investors with overseas investment opportunities in the United States, Hong Kong and Japan and the markets of Europe through its global convertible bonds, Rhinos has made another historical mark as the first foreign entity to open an asset management company in Mongolia – one of Asia’s last bastions of financial development.

Through its wholly-owned Mongolian subsidiary, Rhinos aims to explore deal-sourcing opportunities in Russia and Central Asia. The dynamic firm has also invested nearly US$100 million in Vietnam – a developing market whose high economic growth potential was foreseen by the entrepreneurial company early on in 2013.

“Our first-mover advantage as the pioneer and only Korean company offering overseas investments and one-of-a-kind products, combined with the financial expertise of our people in primary and secondary markets, has been a key factor of our success,” says Chun Myung-ho, CEO and president. “We are a company that protects our customers’ profits through safe and responsible investments.”

Established in 2014, Rhinos invests in a variety of global assets with limited downside exposure and expected high returns – such as mezzanine finance products, structuring and special property acquisition companies – with the foremost aim of protecting investors’ capital.

A market leader in South Korea, where it is able to source robust investment opportunities through a well-established network of prominent companies, Rhinos also aims to become a major player in convertible bond investments in Vietnam by hiring additional manpower, seeking more mergers and acquisitions and increasing brand awareness.

“Our fundamental goal is to share our expertise, information and know-how with others,” Chun says. “We are open to any potential investment, partnership or opportunity, and are ready for anything.”
