Exemplifying the principle of “less is more”, Airex Composite Structures (ACS) revolutionises the passenger transport industry with its expertise in lightweight construction that promotes reduced fuel consumption, efficient movement and superior engine performance.

The driving force behind many rail vehicle and bus manufacturers, ACS is a technical pioneer in using intelligent materials and high-performance composites. ACS belongs to 3A Composites Group, the sandwich constructions core material and composite panels division of Schweiter Technologies.

ACS has access to the group’s resources and knowledge base to develop innovative railcar front cabins through INNOCAB, modular construction systems for heated and unheated floor panels with COMFLOOR and bus shell components with XBODY.

ACS collaborates with clients to develop custom-fit solutions and to shorten time to market. One such collaboration is for the LOK2000 series of electric locomotives. ACS blazed the trail for the first fibre-reinforced cabin front-end of LOK2000s with INNOCAB.

The company grows alongside customers, expanding its borders as clients extend their geographical reach. ACS enters new markets indirectly by supplying to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with projects in those markets.

Given China’s massive land mass, the country built a sophisticated rail network connecting the provinces. This does not hinder ACS from serving the market as the company sees great opportunities in partnering with OEMs to work on lightweight construction for electric mobility vehicles and urban transport including trams and trolley buses.

“We are seeking long-term partners who could help us in our goal in Asia to reach the same position that we have in Europe. We would like to offer the same services and products that we have in Europe,” Raiber says.
