As a leading Swiss university of the applied sciences strongly grounded on practice-oriented research and specialist knowledge, HSR University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil is home to a number of promising industrial and commercial research collaboration opportunities with Asian partners and students.

From designing software and hardware for communication systems to providing laboratory research services in energy, architecture, microelectronics, automation and materials processing technologies, HSR offers the knowledge-based leverage necessary for Asian companies to break new ground – such as the joint development of security devices in smartphones.

The school’s partnerships with esteemed public research universities in Asia such as Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore also strengthen its regional accessibility for potential partners and students.

Our philosophy is to connect education with application-oriented research together with companies Hermann Mettler, principal, HSR University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil

“Our philosophy is to connect education with application-oriented research together with companies, and we want to make sure that our students are exposed to people around the world,” says Dr Hermann Mettler, principal. “Diversity is a source of strength. We believe it is very important to open our doors internationally.”

Founded in 1972, HSR offers bachelor studies built upon its impressive competencies in electrical, renewable energy, environmental, mechanical and civil engineering, computer science, landscape architecture and spatial planning.

The university also offers a comprehensive Master of Science in Engineering degree that will soon be taught completely in English, and postgraduate studies and short-term certificate courses in its specialist fields.

Highly skilled professors with real industry expertise teach the courses at HSR with a strong focus on holistic personal development to cultivate leadership skills, creativity and independence.

Heavily funded by the Swiss government, HSR strongly values working closely with local industries.

“If you have difficulty transforming basic research and development results into a real product, then we’re in business,” Mettler tells potential
partners.
