1. I Am a Hero
At long last a worthy new entry in the slumping zombie movie genre, Shinsuke Sato’s hugely satisfying manga adaptation follows a few morally ambiguous characters as they look to fend off a zombie apocalypse. A must-see for horror fans. (Opens on May 5)
A middle-aged filmmaker must juggle the demands of an international co-production and the impending death of her terminally ill mother in this superb drama by actor-director Nanni Moretti, who finds an exquisite balance between trauma and hilarity. (Opens on May 5)

A handsomely crafted biopic of a remarkable subject, Stephen Hopkins’ film tells the story of Jesse Owens, the black American track-and-field athlete who embarrassed Hitler by winning four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. (Opens on May 5)

While both Tang Wei and Wu Xiubo return for this spiritual ‘sequel’ to 2013’s Finding Mr Right, it’s the supporting players – especially Paul Chun and Wu Yanshu as a loving couple – who lend a soul to this rambling meditation on human connections. (Opens on May 5)

A young woman diagnosed with cancer lives her life to the fullest in this Japanese dramedy, which is surprisingly anything but hackneyed. Ryoko Hirosue impresses as the wife and mother who, despite her condition, quietly inspires those around her. (Opens on May 5)
