Heavy metal wonders Metallica announce debut Hong Kong show for January

Tickets go on sale at the end of October for AsiaWorld-Expo performance, one of only two Asian gigs as part of current WorldWired tour

Metallica are on their way to Hong Kong as part of their world tour.

Headbangers rejoice – heavy metal gods Metallica will be performing in Hong Kong for the first time in January.

Metallica’s WorldWired Tour is so far only calling in at two Asian cities – the Hong Kong show at AsiaWorld-Expo on January 20, and a show in Seoul on January 11.

The Hong Kong concert will come 35 years after the band came together in 1981 and pioneered a harder, more aggressive form of metal known as thrash. Metallica are regarded as one of the “big four” of thrash metal along with Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer.

The band’s self-titled album from 1991 – which contains the hit Enter Sandman – has sold more than 16 million copies in the US, making it one of the biggest-selling heavy metal albums ever.

Overall, Metallica have sold more than 110 million records worldwide, making them one of the most commercially successful bands in history.

Tickets to the Hong Kong show go on sale on October 28 through HK Ticketing and Tom Lee outlets.
