IFC Mall dreams up a white Christmas for a good cause

It's going to be snowing in Hong Kong this Christmas. At least, it will be in Central's IFC Mall, with a little Hollywood magic.

From Saturday, there will be snow showers six times a day in the mall's atrium. The 15-minute snowfalls are made using a technology called SnowCel, which has been used in a number of film productions including the Harry Potter saga.

All of the mall's festive decorations will be available for charity sales once the season is over. More than 20 Christmas trees have been placed around the mall, some wrapped in handcrafted yarn.

Canto-pop singer and actress Gigi Leung Wing-kei, who officiated at the ceremony, designed a rabbit figurine for a silent charity auction. Other celebrities who exhibited their design skills for the cause included model Cara Grogan, scriptwriter Christine To Chi-long and designer Dorothy Tang.

Funds raised will be donated to Summerbridge Hong Kong to support its educational services for the underprivileged. The yarn and fabric on the trees will be donated to Vision First's refugee services.
