Cesar Harada shows us around Makerbay, Hong Kong co-working space for innovators

In the latest episode of Groovers and Shakers - a Facebook Live series where we speak to a local entrepreneur each week - Cesar Harada showed us around Makerbay, a co-working space for innovators, engineers, designers and crafters.

Since its launch in 2015, Makerbay has been central in driving the local maker movement. It has participated in and hosted many education projects. For example, its team of designers and engineers worked with 20 students to build an electronic vehicle as part of FIA Formula E’s education program. In addition to the space in Yau Tong, it also opened a branch in PMQ, offering classes on laser-cutting, woodworking and metalworking, etc.

Before setting up Makerbay, Harada previously designed and developed robotic boats that can clean up oil spills. Truly a global citizen, the French-Japanese inventor grew up in Paris and Saint Malo, and has lived in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, New York and London among many other countries. In this discussion, he tells us what motivates him, the work he has been doing at Makerbay and how Hong Kong compares to other cities he has been in.
