Jasper Tsang goes bananas, with a mermaid ... for Hong Kong harbour swim

Legislative Council president and showbiz stars among personalities recruited for campaign to promote revived cross-harbour swim, now in its fifth year

President of the Hong Kong Legislative Council Jasper Tsang Yok-tsing.

Heartthrob and actor Gregory Wong Chung-yiu, songstress Kay Tse On-kei, wing chun master Ip Chun, boxer Rex Tso, and Legislative Council president Jasper Tsang Yok-sing are among nearly 50 Hong Kong personalities photographed in unlikely poses to promote participation in this year's cross-harbour swim.

Tsang, known for his sober demeanour when presiding in Legco, is pictured sitting in an inflatable chair surrounded by bananas. Wong is seen standing, eyes open, underwater, while actress Lo Fun (Cheung Wai-fun) is the little mermaid. Tso, in full boxing regalia, and Ip pose together. Yang Yuntao, artistic director of Hong Kong Dance, dances underwater. Leung Kee-cheong, former principal of Fresh Fish Traders' School in Yau Ma Tei, swims fully clothed with three schoolchildren. Leung took part in the cross-harbour swim in 1978 before it was suspended.

This year's New World Harbour Race, on October 18, is the fifth since the annual cross-harbour swim was revived five years ago.
