Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize shortlist announced
Nineteen works from local and Hong Kong-based overseas artists picked

Homelessness, forced labour and last year’s Umbrella Movement are among themes featured in the shortlist of this year’s Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize.
The plight of refugees, ethnic minorities and LGBT rights have also been focused on.
Organised by Justice Centre Hong Kong, the annual prize aims to promote awareness of human rights issues in the city. Nineteen artworks from more than 100 entries were shortlisted by a panel that included Faina Derman, director of Sundaram Tagore Gallery, and Mina Park, art collector and lawyer turned entrepreneur.

Works are in a variety of media from Hong Kong-born artists and overseas artists. All artists are currently based in Hong Kong.

Previous winners include Filipino photographer Xyza Cruz Bacani, who was recently named one of BBC’s 100 Women of 2015, and Australian-born Katie Vajda for her series on domestic workers.
The shortlisted artworks will be on show at the Fringe Club in Central from December 4 to 10. Winners will be announced and a charity auction will be held on International Human Rights Day on December 10. For more details visit justicecentre.org.hk/events
