An Evening with Tom Jones

Even at 75, Tom Jones shows no signs of slowing. He’s booked stops in Australia and Singapore before arriving in the city in early April to play one show. Expect the Welsh crooner to toss in some recent tracks from his album Long Lost Suitcase, along with an eclectic blend of old, new and a little James Bond theme with She’s a Lady, It’s Not Unusual and Thunderball.

Teatro Regio Torino

Classical music lovers will be in for a real treat when the Turin-based Italian opera house and orchestra stage three concerts, as part of the upcoming 44th Hong Kong Arts Festival. The first features the orchestra and chorus playing symphonic selections from Verdi and Wagner. The second sees the company shift their attention to Verdi’s monumental Requiem. And finally for the grand finale, the company, whose lineage dates back to the mid-1700s, performs music from Russian masters Shostakovich and Prokofiev.

February 27, 8pm: Verdi and Wagner Opera Gala (HK$350-HK$980); March 3, 8pm: Verdi’s Requiem (HK$400-HK$1,080); March 4, 8pm: Shostakovich and Prokofiev (HK$350-HK$980). Hong Kong Cultural Centre, 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Tickets available at Urbtix. Inquiries: 2824 2430

Ladybeard

Before Japan stole him away, the crossplaying singer/wrestler was the pride and joy of Hong Kong. Catch the furry, pigtailed Aussie putting his own spin on kawaii culture when he returns to the place that launched his career.
