After cyberbullying allegedly claimed the life of K-pop star and social network noisemaker Sulli, internet users turned on another celebrity – her former boyfriend, Choiza.

Shortly after the f(x) star’s death rocked the K-pop world on Monday, the Instagram account of the rapper from hip-hop outfit Dynamic Duo attracted hundreds of hate comments. Choiza split with Sulli in 2017, three years after they admitted their relationship following a paparazzi report in 2014.

Many comments condemned Choiza, saying Sulli would not have suffered from cyberbullying and died if she hadn’t met him in the first place. Although Choiza has so far not been linked to her death, some fans said the couple’s break up might have at least partially influenced her decision to end her life.

The comments included posts wishing he would “die in a car crash” and that he was hated “more than the cyberbullies”.

Some criticised the well-known barbecued-pork lover for having visited a barbecue restaurant in Seoul two days before her death. Choiza’s latest Instagram post of cuts of raw pork at the restaurant was flooded with hate comments.

However, other users commenting on Choiza’s Instagram account said the cyberbullies should “wake up and stop their groundless, childish actions”.

Some of these comments said “Sulli died not because of him but because of people like you” and warned them “not to make another victim of cyberbullying”.

Choiza, 39, managed by the Amoeba Culture agency, and Sulli from SM Entertainment had a high-profile coming out as a couple because he was 14 years older.

They had long been rumoured to be in a relationship due to various photos of them together. The revelation of their relationship forced her to put her career on hold until she resurfaced last June as one of four hosts on a TV variety show on which celebrities talked about cyberbullying.

Sulli, who debuted as a child actor, hanged herself at her two-storey house in Seongnam, Gyeonggi province, on Monday.
