Stella McCartney girls are still the coolest on the block

In eye-popping colours, beautiful tailored and cleverly constructed, McCartney's spring-summer 2016 collection on show in Paris was bold and self-assured

Vivid stripes and oversized checks were given a fresh turn inside the gilded halls of Paris' Opera Garnier in Stella McCartney's spring/summer 2016 catwalk show. Her collection exemplified the free-and-easy spirit she's been tapping lately. From zesty citruses to reds and candy pinks, eye-popping hues and graphic black and whites drew attention to cleverly constructed pieces.

Sometimes McCartney goes overly simple with her shapes, but this season's collection was both fruitful and cohesive, offering fun, beautifully tailored pieces as well as flowing pleated numbers that came alive with movement. Among her most desirable pieces were eyelet-style lacy dresses with lines and stitching that curved beautifully around the body, mesmerising the audience with their organic, swirling asymmetry. Striking dark denim had a bit of an origami touch.

There were so many points of interest throughout the collection, from Japanese-styled sandals to expertly cut, long, lean suit pieces to big, beautiful, and naive swirling motifs. Overall, McCartney's optimistic looks for next spring were very self-assured; there was nothing wishy-washy  - it was either go big or go home.
