Restaurant review: En Grill & Bar, Lan Kwai Fong - Okinawa specialities
Sushi, dumplings, seared beef and deep-fried chicken all went down well at this dark and comfortable grill restaurant, although all the dishes arrived at our table at nearly the same time
Cuisine: Japanese
Price: about HK$370 without drinks or the service charge.
Ambience: this is a proper izakaya - dark and comfortable, with a long drinks list, including awamori - a very potent alcoholic beverage that’s a speciality of Okinawa.
Pros: the food and awamori (which we had on the rocks) went very well together.
Cons: almost all the dishes came at once, which meant the hot food cooled down.
Recommended dishes: sanma sashimi (HK$180) was oily, rich and delicious, and served with spring onions, grated ginger and fresh wasabi. Okinawa agu pork dumplings (HK$78) were juicy, light and piping hot. Motobu wagyu beef tataki (HK$258) - thin slices of lightly seared meat - wasn’t too cold, and the beef was tender. The waitress recommended the deep-fried Okinawa chicken with Okinawa tofu tartare sauce (HK$90). The chicken was succulent, with a thin coating, and the sauce was creamy but light. We also liked the crisp deep-fried Okinawa tofu (HK$58).
What else? This place used to be known as Rakuen, and is part of En Dining restaurant group.
