Restaurant review: Hoko Farm in Wan Chai – filling fusion fare at a fair price

Creamy Hokkaido milk is the main attraction in this East meets West mash-up

All-day breakfast by Hoko Farm.

With cartoon cow graffiti adorning the walls, Hoko Farm’s trademark dish is scrambled eggs made with Hokkaido’s famous creamy milk. The style of the cuisine is a mixture of Hong Kong, Japanese and Western styles.

We like the Hong-Kong-style macaroni with raw beef in house-made tomato and vegetable soup (HK$48), which has fresh-tasting meat and a chunky broth.

Other dishes popular with Hongkongers are pork cutlet and dried egg instant noodles (HK$45) and barbecue pork rice (HK$48).

For Western-style dishes, we like the all-day breakfast (HK$65) with sausage, bacon, baked beans and toast. The scrambled egg is made with creamy 3.6 Hokkaido milk and black truffle for a rich taste.

The minced beef bake with macaroni (HK$58) has a cheesy taste and a sauce with a strong tomato flavour.

The pasta with wild mushroom sauce (HK$62) is a let-down, with too much pasta and not enough mushrooms in the sauce.

Of the yoshoku (Japanese-style Western) dishes available, we enjoyed the Japanese black curry beefburger with cheddar and mozzarella (HK$58). The burger is topped with Hokkaido milk scrambled egg, which makes for a very filling dish.
